Hokule'a - Malama Honua arrive at Ukutoia

Many of our community know of the significant event we had in our final weeks of term 1 2015.   Here is a video conference between our students and students in Hawaii.   If you listen carefully you will hear the thoughts and feelings of our students about this historical event for children of Tamaki - Manaiakalani cluster of schools.  

Garage Sale @ PES

A great big thank you for all your contributions to our garage sale. The many donated items from home and baking! It was one fantastic day for our community with whole families coming through to find a bargain or a treat to take home. We managed to raise a whopping $1,700! This will help us with our camp cost. The year 7 & 8 students wish to say a great big thank you for this! Faafetai tele lava!

Introducing Room 3!

Here we are - the most good looking of the year 7 and 8 students at PES!   We've kicked off the year in style and are excited daily with all that unfolds in this special place.   We're loving our change in teachers for literacy and numeracy.  We arrive on time, wearing our uniform with pride and practicing the Pt England Way all day - everyday!   We're learning very quickly of the privileges and responsibilities of being the oldest children in the school.   We've got swimming on next week, a trip to the Polyfest and even a year 8 Leadership Camp this term.  So much to look forward to!  Please come on through for a visit whenever you can, we'd love to show you around ourselves.   Matapone e!  Keep it real people!

Elections are here again!

We thought as a trip down memory lane for our community and school - we've dug out this interview. It has our students Sela and Tanielu in 2009 interviewing Prime Minister John Key at our local Ruapotaka Marae. We hope this serves a reminder also - to get out and cast your vote tomorrow - Saturday 20th September 2014. There is plenty of information regarding vision and policies for all parties online. Well done to Sela, Leoden, Cruz and Tanielu who interviewed and captured this for us back in 2009.

Telecom / Spark Community Day @ PES

Telecom now known as Spark visited schools in our community as part of an awesome outreach programme they run. Watch this movie to find out how they carry out this random act of kindness and why. TAOFI MAU I AU MEASINA - Samoan language week launch@PES

Vaiaso o le Gagana Sāmoa – Samoan Language Week: Sunday 25 – Saturday 31 May “Taofi mau i au measina: Hold fast to your treasures”. Minister of Pacific Island affairs - Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga, launched the Samoan Language week in Auckland at Pt England School. This was a wonderful occasion where we shared the celebration with our local Samoan language nest - Aoga a le Teuila, based at the Tamaki Pacific Islanders Presbyterian church. Tamaki College Samoan group were also part of the celebrations, ending our time together with a beautiful song all about the beauty of Samoa, it's way, language and youth. Malo faafetai lava mo lenei avanoa taua. Ia ola pea lo tatou gagana i totonu o tatou aiga, aoga, ekalesia ma nuu o loo tatou galulue ai.

40 years for World Vision...22 years for PES!

This year marks 40 years of the 40 hour famine in NZ for World Vision. For us at Pt England it marks our 22nd years of participating in this event. Our school, whanau and community are very supportive of us and it's looking like we're going to make our goal of raising over $1,000! A special thank you to all our sponsors and the extra support we receive from world vision and their education sector. Looking forward to seeing how our funds support the children of Malawi.

Kia pai te kotahi

This is an entry for the 2014 Manaiakalani Film Festival. Kia pai te kotahi - better together is a song and MTV produced by the students of the Pt England Performing Arts Band. This project was lead by their creative teacher Olivia Muliamasealii. It captures some of their journey that had this song captured and recorded into what you hear today. Kia pai te kotahi Manaiakalani!

Outlook for Someday Workshop

Our year 7 and 8 students had the privilege of learning from Chris and Elai from the Outlook for Someday. They learned all about sustainability in some of it's forms. The next step was learning about how to include some of these themes/ideas in a movie. Our team of students are currently working on movies to submit in this years movie competition. Check out what they made in a very short time with the guidance of Elai and Chris. Special thanks to the Outlook for Someday and their tutors Elai and Chris. It was a day of impact in terms of learning, creating and sharing for us here at PES. The way you quickly gauged the ability and understanding of this group was most impressive. You are great tutors of movies and the impact they can have. We learned very quickly about sustainability through your workshop. Our students reflected that they thoroughly enjoyed the 'how and what'of you taught. We look forward to working a lot more with the Outlook for Someday team. Kia Ora Koutou!

PEPA shows Pt England School's cultures and more

Term 2 saw a number of wonderful events unfold in our school. One was a brilliant performance led by Miss Muliaumasealii that saw our cultures being boldly represented in a 8 minute performance. Our community and even visitors from Google were there to witness and capture this event. This is part 1 of a two part movie that shows you this outstanding performance. Well done to all the tutors, students and parents who contributed to this event.

Going hard out for the hungry 2013!

This year our extension students went hard out for the hungry again! We went without food for 20 hours to experience in a very small way what it is to go without food. This included a sleepover on a Friday evening and early rise the following day. We had a lot of fun together - learning more about Papua New Guinea and the children we were fundraising for. We also had the privilege of the famine ambassadors - that's right the ones you've seen on television visit us. They led us through activities that had us understanding what it was to have limited food resources and how this has so many bad knock on effects in a community. There's much more that we did - please visit Josephines blog to find out more about this life saving event. We are proud to report that to date we have fundraised over $1,200 from a group of 22 students. Thanks to Devon and her team from World Vision, our parents, teachers, families and friends who have helped us to raise these funds. We look forward to finding out what this does for our friends in PNG.  Thanks to Josephine for editing the movie below.

Will.i.Am gifts Manaiakalani

Will.i.Am from the Black Eyed Peas today visited our school. He is a recording artist, song writer, performer, entertainer, philanthropist and more. He came with a big group of people that included the media, friends and family. Hallensteins clothing company helped to bring him to our school. Will presented us today with a cheque of $100,000 for Manaiakalani. That's right he gifted this to us all! He shared many important messages with us. We've included a couple of these in our movie here. We've captured his korero with us and will post more soon. Be sure to check the individual blogs of PES students to read about this wonderful experience.

Paula Bennett visits PES

Our school usually hosts many visitors during the year. Yesterday we received a visit from the honourable Paula Bennett, Minister of Social Development. She briefly visited our class with Mr and Mrs Burt and Pat Sneddon. We were later told that she enjoyed being in our class. She was interested in what we were doing and how we used our netbooks for our learning. (3rd April 2013) Room 21 Pt England School. Thank you for visiting us Paula Bennett. We hope that what we shared with you will help you in the important role you have for Aotearoa.

One of our recent school assemblies saw a beautiful array of Indian celebration costume and dance. It was all part of us learning and practicing how to 'Celebrate Successfully'.
