Kia mau te tumanako - Film Festival 2020
Bubble life brought about a lot of learning for us! We learned how much fun it is to be with our families. Some days it was super, others we simply needed a bit of quiet and distance. That's normal!
We hope you will enjoy our short film that has us reflecting on Bubble Life. A big shout out to our whanau members who took charge and ensured we stayed safe and well this year! Thanks for encouraging to hold on to hope.
Kia mau te tumanako - never lose hope!
Please feel welcome to comment below about the members in your whanau you would like to acknowledge too!

Cape Reinga - top of Aotearoa with my whanau. Jezakaia Room 3
Jezekaia travelled up north for a tangi. It was a sad occasion but also one where whanau got to show off special parts of Aotearoa. Go here to read more from Jezakaia.
The Cape
On 26th of June me and my family travelled to the far north for a tangi in Ngataki .Waking up at our Marae was something else! There were no trees in the way and all there were was a stunner sun and white clouds!
In our spare time we made a Road trip to the top of our country to visit Cape Reinga, it was about a 40 minute drive away from our destination. It was a beautiful experience to be out in the country area - not many people are able to travel to the top of our country but we did!
It was also good to hang out with my beautiful family. We passed some avocado farms, sand dunes and heaps of beautiful beaches on the way. It was nice being at the cape indulging the ocean view and soaking up the fresh air. I can't wait to visit again in summer with my Family.

Matariki Manaakitanga - it's a new year celebration!
This post is shared with by Zoe. She shares about our school celebration of Matariki. Our school mixed across levels to have a whole day to celebrate this important time of the year. Go here to read more from Zoe.
Last week on Friday we had a Matariki celebration. Matariki presents the 7 sisters or the 7 stars. In Matariki you will be able to see the 7 stars. They are so special. Matariki is all about spending time with your Whanau ( family ). It is important because it's the time of celebrating Maori new year.
The Maori legend talks about 7 starts that needed a role. A job, here are the 7 stars names
1. Matariki
2. Waitī
3. Waitā
4. Waipuna-ā-rangi
5. Tupu-ā-nuku
6.Tupu-ā-rangi
7. Ururangi,
My highlight from Friday was when Leylani and I baked the cupcakes and we learnt it so fast and made a lot of cupcakes. My other highlight was when we had to make the stars with the paper to decorate our tables. It was confusing at first and then I made more and I even made some during lunch on Friday. My biggest highlight was the whole day it was so fun, we had a lot of fun making the food and it was just a great time on Friday.
Should New Zealand celebrate this? Why?For me I think New Zealand should celebrate this because its a special thing to Maoris and even if we aren't Maoris we should celebrate it with them to get to know Maori culture more, as New Zealanders we should celebrate this it's about our land and people!
Little message to Mrs Tele'a: First I will like to thank Mrs Tele'a for preparing this for us we had a great time with you and I will also like to thank you for teaching me and Leylani to bake the cupcakes. Without your great idea we wouldn't had have the great time on Friday and I thank you for everything you did for us on Friday.

Vaiaso o le gagana Samoa. Pese ma viiga!
"Tapena sou ōso mo lau malaga" - Prepare yourself a gift for your travels.
It is tradition for Samoan people when travelling to have organised a gift to take to families who await them. If travelling from Samoa a boxed umu was a typical 'oso' to bring. When travelling from New Zealand to Samoa, money, canned food, clothing and any household items are greatly appreciated by those awaiting your arrival. Don't be surprised that when you return to NZ with only a umu box and an empty suitcase. Samoan people are very resourceful and will make good use of practically everything you arrive with!
The gift we have today for you is that of our children singing two hymns they requested to learn and share this week. Our guitarist John is of Tongan descent who started this whole process of learning, practising and today sharing these hymns. What a gift to share John!
This gift will be used during the year as our students lead karakia, mihi and himene to start each school day.
Malo lava to all students, faamalo atu foi'i iā Mr Wright (guitar and singing coach), John lead guitarist, Kitione, John L, Valeli, Pisirina and Lepisi. Malo lava le faasoa, malo lava le taumafai ina ia iloa e isi o le fanau ia pese tāua o le tatou atunuu.

Welcome Room 3 of 2019!
Kia Ora te whanau! Nau mai haere mai. Afio mai - aere mai! Welcome to Room 3 of 2019.
We've just about to end what has been a great start to 2019. Our team is bigger than last year, we have around 30-31 students in each of our 5 classes. A big class means a lot of really neat sharing opportunities about our individual families.
Why our families? Well this term we are looking at this question 'Ko wai au' to start with. 'Who am I?' This has had Room 3 talking all about ourselves - our names, our whanau and the places we are connected to.
Please visit our blogs this term and find out for yourselves about the amazing people and places we are connected to. From us to you - have a super 2019!
Kia Manuia!

My mother. A poem written by Trinity Room 3
My Mother gave me comfort
And feed me everyday
They say be grateful you have mother
Cause mine was never there
My nana never seemed that bad
And neither did my Papa
But I never really knew them well
Not as good as my mother

Steev Laufilitoga Maka of Uvea comes to PES
Steev Laufilitoga Maka from the island of Uvea! Yes he's here to teach us Team 5 the art of dancing Pasifika style! All classes have had the chance to spend 1 and half hour sessions with Steev. Not only have we learned a new type of Pasifika dance but learned many lessons that go with dance. The ability to listen, follow and concentrate have been a need to experience success in these sessions.
Actions and dance are taught in repetitive cycle however never got bored as Steev has a gift for teaching dance - keeping us focused all the way throughout. While Steev has openly shared that his spoken english is only developing, we understood all he needed us to do and were ready for more. Now that's a great teacher don't you think?! We do!!
Our health and P.E. focus fits perfectly with these special dance sessions. We have talked a lot about persevering when learning to achieve a goal. We certainly have done this with Steev his wife Ebony and baby Vito. During our most recent session Steev spoke to our whole team about how proud he was of all the students. How also to care for one another as one people. To treat all well as we never know what one may be going through. What a neat lesson for life! Thank you Steev! Thank you Sefa for blessing us with this opportunity to learn.

The Healthy Warrior Life!
Wow what a great way to spend our Monday afternoon! The team sent to teach us all about healthy living were awesome!
We had a team of 4 Vodafone Warriors lead us through a very informative session. The headings of the 3 areas they covered were: Nutrition, Sleep and Hydration. Three very important parts of our daily life. If we do a good job looking after what and when we eat, drink and sleep we will be in top shape for our learning and more!
The style of teaching used quick fun quizzes after every short talk on these areas. Chanting our team names was the way we identified which group would answer first. 'Warriors' and 'Nate is the best' were the two chants.
No doubt Room 3 will swing into gear to tell you more detail about our great afternoon with the Vodafone Warriors here at Pt England School.
Special thanks to Tohu Harris, Nathaniel Roache and...can you name the rest of the team. Leave their names in the comments section to win a prize!

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! Inspire me Tour
Covenant Events - Brings 'INSPIRE TOUR' to Point England!
It was an awesome time for all our year 7 and 8 students. Learning valuable lessons for life right now and into the future!
Here are some gems from the show:
How can we achieve the goals we set ourselves? Have you set yourself a goal? Do it!
ASK - don't be afraid to ask for help. It's the best thing to do when you're stuck. People WANT to help you! BELIEVE IN YOURSELF - having the confidence to give things a go is another key to achieving our goals!
Through play, song and dance Maio and Levi entertained and taught us. Likely a message we've heard from our own families, teachers and friends. However it's always good to hear again. Maybe for some of us we haven't had it said enough.
Our boys had the privilege of spending some up front - close and personal time with these two talented young men. They got to have some real talk about being Pasifika, Maori and Kiwi boys who CAN achieve what they want to.
Malo lava le faasoa ma taumafai auā fanau a le Pasifika ma Aotearoa.

Nekflix - Manaiakalani Film Festival #10
You sit down to watch telly, maybe Netflix and you can't decide what to watch. You end having an hour skipping around channels, a smorgasboard of some tasty and maybe not so morsels of film. Room 3 were similar in not being able to settle on just one film, instead created a film that combined 3 ideas. We've called our film - NeKflix! See if you can piece together the three different storylines. This is one of two movies Room 3 have planned and produced to celebrate 10 years of the Manaiakalani Film Festival.
We hope that you enjoyed your time at the cinemas celebrating and now are ready to watch again - or maybe for the first time our movie 'Ask your Aunty'. Be sure to leave us some feedback and your footprint so we can share the love right back with you!

Ask Your Aunty! Manaiakalani Film Festival #10
Got a problem you cannot solve? Want the answer to love and life? Ask your Aunty. It's a fun spin on some questions we have as youth and some typical answers we often receive.

Farming Flounder with Kauri Flats School
Have you heard of farming flounder? Well for a lot of us in Room 3 this is something very new. We are delighted to share that we are in partnership with Kauri Flats school to farm flounder.
This morning our entire school headed to our Tamaki riverside to support our school flounder team. We said karakia and sang himene as part of this support. We have never done this before as a school so as you can imagine it was very special time. We have just met the team who have returned and according to one student we have caught more than 20 baby flounder. They are so tiny they look to be about 2 - 3cm in length. They will be placed in our special flounder tank where they will cared for as they grow. Congratulations to the the flounder project team. We look forward to seeing what happens next with this project.

What do you wonder about space? Talita animation
This week's class post comes to us from Talita. She's posed a very interesting question for astronauts. Watch Talita's animation to find out more! (Blog link for more from Talita)
Every term, we have to make an animation. This term we made our animation animate our answers to a question. This question had to say 'I wonder' in the beginning of the question.
WALT: Animate our answers.

'I wonder...'
This term we started with some 'I wonder' questions. This is where students get to simply 'wonder' about anything to do with our school focus. This term's it's a science focus on space. The following is a slide deck produced by two boys in Room 3. Noah and Christian. Have a look through at their questions and then answers they found out by researching.
Well done boys!

Blog post of the week! Mystique shares about her IKAN test
Today my group Tapawha got to see our results on our test. The thing that was different about our Ikan test was that we could go over our test twice if we needed extra time to do the answers again for the questions. Another difference was that we used our own Chromebooks with our own headphones. After the first test we got to sit the test again because some of the people in Tapawha had missed out some and thought that it would be good if we done our Ikan test again.

When we started the test I felt nervous and kind of relaxed at the same time, I also felt pressure coming in. When I was half way through the test I started feel pretty positive about my self and I thought I did alright on the first test and did better listening to it a second time.
The next day ( which is today ) we marked our test. The different thing about marking our test was that we got to circle the ones that we got wrong but was a silly mistake because you knew the answer. I was thinking of another question and forgot to answer the previous question then I ended up missing it out.
Before our teacher didn't let us do this but now she has told us that we could mark it circling the silly mistake we made. This means I could also count this as question correct!
After looking at my own results - my data, I still need to improve in place value. My grades on the test this time are better than the last time we did our test. I still find place value on the tests a little hard. I will work on this!
Go here to read more from Myztique. Well done Myztique on sharing your learning!
